Research Interests:

Patricia Wright's discovery of a new species of lemur, the golden bamboo lemur (Hapalemur aureus), led to the establishment of Ranomafana National Park in Madagascar. Since 1987, Wright has worked to protect and conserve the flora and fauna of the park as well as to promote rural development, education, and health services for villagers living around the park. Wright is the International Director of the Ranomafana National Park Research Station in Madagascar and Executive Director for the Institute for the Conservation of Tropical Environments (ICTE) at SUNY-Stony Brook. In 1989, she became a MacArthur Fellow (John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation), and in 1995 she was awarded the "Chevalier d'Ordre National" (National Medal of Honor of Madagascar) from the President of Madagascar. Wright's research focuses on the evolution of behavior and the effect of parasites, predation, and stress on non-human primates. She has continuous field data on Propithecus diadema edwardsi since 1986.
